Wavelets - Athaletics
More goodness from the Tiny Engines shed...
Wavelets’ sound is audibly rooted in ’90s / ’00s post-hardcore, but fortunately isn’t a carbon-copy emo tribute (grittier production than their heroes is one of the first things that stands out about ‘Athaletics’). They combine this sound with elements of modern punk rock – specifically on ‘Julio Won’t Get Out Of The Car’ and ‘Bad Scene, Jawbreaker’s Fault’ (all the while coming dangerously close to having their titles outshine their songs), and it’s a genuinely fresh take on the genre. That, and the fact that they’re from Gainesville, Florida and don’t sound like Hot Water Music or Against Me!? Envelope: you just got pushed.
