This Is What We Learned At Twenty One Pilots’ Emøtiønal Røadshøw

Twenty One Pilots played the first of two great big Emøtiønal Røadshøw dates at London's Alexandra Palace on Friday (November 11).

This is what we learned.

THIS SHOW IS PURE THEATRE
Tyler and Josh were doing wardrobe changes and climbing stuff long before they were filling rooms of this size, but this is a step up. They have countless costume changes, perform on top of the crowd, in the middle of the crowd on a makeshift stage, Tyler finishes 'Car Radio' atop a platform at the back of the room, Josh and two gas mask guys from the 'Lane Boy' video play a marching drum solo... this truly is a show rather than two dudes playing some songs.

...BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S NOT REAL
There are stunts aplenty, but there's a feeling that this experience would feel just as intimate in a pub as this massive room. That's not just down to Tyler and Josh's songs (which sound breathtaking and innovative as ever tonight). It's not even because of their talent (which they clearly have in abundance). It's because of their heart. These are people who believe and feel every word they sing (and that includes support act Bry), and creates a family feeling that pretty much everyone in the room feels a part of. You can't fake something like that.

OH, AND TWENTY ONE PILOTS HAVE THE SONGS TO BACK IT UP, TOO
It seems each new song from hereon out is destined to be huge. This is a set chock-full of stunning, dynamic 'Blurryface' material, and the only newer song on show today - 'Heathens' - prompts one of the biggest singalongs Alexandra Palace will host for a very long time.

OH, BUT THEY DON'T FORGET THE OLD STUFF
A mid-set medley of songs like 'Addict With A Pen' and 'Kitchen Sink' nods to old fans, and the singalongs that greet songs like a heart-swelling snippet of 'Forest' says everything anyone needs to know about how dedicated those who've been here from the start really are.

JUST WATCH THIS BAND
Do it. You will not regret it. This is something special.
