Recommended destination: the shelf of any self-respecting indie fan.
Mixing all the more endearing moments of The Fall with a punk rock attitude, drumming spazz-outs and first class riffs, 'Ice Station' could very well leave Chicago's The Race with more than just the cult following that their previous efforts have granted them. With a broader use of electronics, 'Ice Station' is certainly a daring release. Opener 'Feathers' is a fantastic start to a fantastic album and it doesn't go downhill from here by any means. 'Odessa' is a sing-along masterpiece, while 'Evil Love' has all the melodic purity of Belle And Sebastian. There's also much post-rock ambience to enjoy in the definite highlight 'Walls' and the equally good 'Stand By'. Recommended destination: the shelf of any self-respecting indie fan.
