The Charm The Fury - ‘The Sick, Dumb & Happy’
They've got some work to do.
The second album from Amsterdam’s The Charm The Fury is akin to a metal jukebox – taking in both old and new – and while this makes for an occasionally fun listen, it also leaves the band without a solid identity.
Built around the versatile vocal talents of Caroline Westendorp, they dip in and out of Lamb Of God-aping grooves (‘The Hell In Me’), Bring Me The Horizon’s slam and swing (‘No End In Sight’), Machine Head’s crushing harmonics (‘The Future Feed Us Not’) and straight-up Avenged Sevenfold balladry (‘Silent War’).
The tools and passion are there; transforming them into a distinct sound is the task now.
