The 10th studio album by Hertfordshire’s prog kings is a grand affair, probably more so than usual. ‘The Incident’ is a self-produced, 55-minute song broken down into 14 chapters, with tracks two to five appearing on a separate, EP-length disc. A rollercoaster of ups and downs (there are chapters written about a family terrorising their neighbours and a body found floating by a fisherman), ‘The Incident’ was inspired by a police sign seen by frontman Steven Wilson. It’s hard to do this record justice in just 100 words but it visits all emotions and scenarios, making it an intriguing and truly inspiring album. Porcupine Tree have done it again.
