Slowly ascending the pole to the status of totems for the indie-friendly noise-meets-rock set, Canadian doom-meets-shoegaze duo Nadja have another thing in common with Sunn0))), Jesu and Wolf Eyes: they release a faintly ridiculous amount of records. What they do tend to avoid is the aforementioned trio’s sketchy sense of quality control; nonetheless, it’s odd that one of Nadja’s higher profile releases is a gen-yoo-eyne covers album. It starts with My Bloody Valentine (‘Only Shallow’), finishes with The Cure (‘Faith’) and sits Slayer next to the title-inspiring A-Ha in the middle. The eight tracks straddle notions of adoring tribute and fluid reinvention, while coming off as far less novelty-stricken than you may fear.
