Modern Baseball at Reading Festival was cool. Very cool. Here's what we learned from their set.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!
All disclaimers and apologies for the term aside, Modern Baseball feel like the geeks who inherited the earth right about now. Against all odds, they're a pretty big deal these days. And that feels like a victory for all of us, in a way.
WE'RE SO GLAD THIS HAPPENED
Because they are the band us. You, me and everyone else who's ever felt a little shit, been shat upon, or whatever. There's no logic to there being a buttload of people swarming into the The Pit for a scrappy indie punk band like this, really. But somehow that's what happens.
They're our happy ending, they're the good guys finishing first. Modern Baseball are a pretty special band, really.
AND THEY'RE NOT STOPPING HERE Just watching a packed out tent signing along on those dramatic, lilting melodies of 'Just Another Face' and firing every word off with conviction warms the heart.
Their songs might spring from the deepest of depths and darkness, but they find ways of shining a light through the cracks. And that's the kind of thing that inspires the level of devotion they continue to engender.
Get involved if you haven't already. This is only getting bigger and bigger.
