"It’s difficult to escape the nagging feeling that 'Rise Of The Lion' is the sound of a great band spreading themselves far too thinly."
Miss May I aren’t just a metalcore band these days. They’re now a thrash band and a straight-up metal band too, often all at the same time. Proficient enough in everything as they are, their lack of focus means highlights like ‘Gone’ – which is the best song Bullet For My Valentine never wrote – are lost in a disorienting mess of solos, riffs and everything else they’ve thrown in for good measure. Galloping metalcore anthem ‘You Want Me’ shows flashes of brilliance, too, but it’s difficult to escape the nagging feeling that their fourth record is the sound of a great band spreading themselves far too thinly.
