Is the solo debut from Memphis May Fire man Matty Mullins a success?
Metalcore frontman releases Christian pop album. Well, that’s a new one. ‘Matty Mullins’ finds Memphis May Fire’s flame-haired vocalist toning things down sonically and amping up his already religion-driven lyrics. Ethereal opener ‘See You In Everything’ is a breathy, promising introduction to his stripped-back, electronic solo output, but the likes of ‘99% Soul’ may be a little too cloying for the non-believers when placed atop such a bare soundtrack. This album is the sound of a man who’s found his true calling in life, but on this showing, it’s doubtful that as many people will get on board with the music as the message.
