"The sometime Get Up Kid has come good once again..."
Don’t let the title fool you. Despite the odd dark undertone and a distinct note of melancholy, Matt Pryor’s third solo album is anything but a sombre affair, showcasing the sheer breadth and variety of his songcraft. The sometime Get Up Kid has come good once again, turning his hand to punchy powerpop (‘Say What You’re Gonna Say’) wistful acoustic balladry (‘As Perfect As We’ll Ever Be’) and eerie, elemental country with impressive skill. To-the-point songwriting never gets old and neither does Pryor’s rich, expressive voice, so while this won’t be to everyone’s taste, fans should have a field day.
