The rap metal revival might start here. Nu metal tributes are liberally scattered through Idiom’s ‘We Can’t All Be Superheroes’ but, due to their tempered application, are surprisingly agreeable. There’s still the odd dubious riff (the focus refrain of ‘King Of Your Own Throne’ and intro to ‘Placebo’) that makes you think more youth centre than headline European tour, but predominantly the nostalgia trip works. Still, the Exeter four-piece are best when not a decade removed. Sections like the post-rock-inspired wash mid ‘Beast Of Bodmin’, or the Tool-esque ‘Something Perfect’ are the most genuinely interesting of the mini album’s passages.
