Indicative of the band’s ambitious and expansive scope...

Hope Is Noise have been knocking around for a good few years, and it’s weird how the Irish quartet haven’t attracted more attention. There’s an early-90s alt-rock spirit about songs like ‘Speak Over You’ and ‘No Stretch-Marks’ that’s executed with an authenticity that’s perhaps indicative of the fact that they’re no spring chickens. Elsewhere, opener ‘Peace & Quiet’ boasts a marvellous urgency, while the aggressive vocal catharsis of ‘You, The World, And A Bubble’ and epic shoe-gazing charm of closer ‘Our Failing Species’ are both indicative of the band’s ambitious and expansive scope. ‘Under Friendly Fire’ isn’t extraordinary, but it consistently delivers strong songs.
