Sleeping With Sirens at Reading Festival? It was a big, fat win.
SLEEPING WITH SIRENS ARE A MAIN STAGE BAND AND WE DON'T CARE WHO KNOWS IT
Sleeping With Sirens are properly impressive today. The cred crew music snobs may sneer, but the Floridians pull off playing the main stage with consummate ease and no shortage of skill. Sticking to their biggest tunes helps, too.
THIS IS A MIGHTY SET... Speaking of which, the spirit with which they blast out 'Kick Me' makes it feel like a kind of feral lashing out. In this setting it genuinely does sound beastly.
Okay, so it's not exactly Meshuggah, but on a stage as grand as this Sleeping With Sirens do manage to own it and sound mighty.
...AND WE HAVE KQ TO THANK FOR THAT And credit where it's due, lots of that is down to frontman Kellin Quinn. He bosses the Reading main stage as he strides around like it's his own living room.
Shit, he obviously feels at home up there because he isn't even wearing shoes. Or socks. The big screen zeroes in on his bare feet just to ram that home. Best toes of the weekend?
THIS IS A WIN They probably don't win over any new fans or change any opinions about who and what Sleeping With Sirens are all about, but for their time in front of the mammoth gathering they face, this is a victory and something to be proud of.
Kellin merely reaffirms his star status and leaves a lot of lesser lights wishing they had half that sparkle.
