Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport Cover

Every sound receptor in your brain has overloaded...

On Fuck Buttons’ debut album, ‘Street Horrrsing’, one train of thought argued their transcendental tones weren’t constructed for home listening at all, unless your abode habitually hosted several hundred thrill-seekers and dangerous quantities of ecstasy. It was engrossing to a point, but live was where the London-based duo cut loose and fully deconstructed every note. That argument is hollered all over here, however, updating trademark looping picturesque noise – liberally garnished with ebullient hyper-distorted screams – and firing it light years into the future. Layer upon shimmering layer of repetitious exaltations are stacked into toppling towers of controlled volume under the watchful studio eye of electronic pioneer Andrew Weatherall, constant swathes of mind-melting soundscaping rushing around sensory functions. Disinterested in fleeting highs, all but two tunes top eight minutes, and with the possible exception of prior single ‘Surf Solar’, the continuity gluing them together confirms a genuine full-length article to brandish at all those gun-jumping ‘The album is dead’ doomsayers. Indeed, by the time the almost Balearic percussion of Animal Collective-remix-Underworld closer ‘Flight Of The Feathered Serpent’ climaxes, every sound receptor in your brain has overloaded and all you can do is fall backward into a cradle of swaddling sound.
