Dead Letter Circus - The Catalyst Fire Cover

"When they're focused and succint they're nigh on phenomenal..."

Australia are producing a decent (and varied) raft of talented bands at the minute, and Dead Letter Circus’ ‘The Catalyst Fire’ welcomes them into that group of valuable musical exports. The Brisbane metallers’ second full-length has hints of Karnivool’s progressive streak buried within it, but the likes of ‘The Cure’ and ‘Burning Man’ have an immediate, pop-based quality to them that shows them at their strongest. When they’re focused and succinct they’re nigh on phenomenal, but the fiddler, lingering moments of ‘Insider’ and ‘Kachina’ see them veering from the straight and narrow path that serves them best.
