Texan metalcore mob Crown The Empire released their second full-length this week. Here's what we made of it.

Talk about impeccable timing. In its propensity for Hollywood-style melodrama and barrage of arena-friendly hooks, Crown The Empire’s second album is both relentlessly on trend and yet relatively individual, succeeding where previous effort ‘The Fallout’ so often faltered. As flashy as ever, the band have shaped their jumble of ideas into a more coherent, if eccentric whole; the punishing grooves and million dollar choruses of ‘Initiation’ offset by the carnival-esque weirdness of ‘Johnny’s Rebellion’. Some fans may baulk at an especially schmaltzy ‘Millennia’ (which is akin to an epic All Time Low number) but in general, this should do this band’s bid for mega-stardom no harm at all.
