Circa Survive - Descensus Cover

Anthony Green returns... but where is he picking up?

Frontman Anthony Green may be back performing live with Saosin, but he and Circa Survive have found time to craft a follow-up to 2012’s progressive, lucid ‘Violent Waves’. ‘Child Of The Desert’ twists, turns and then accelerates into a bombastic, riff-fueled finale, but those odd moments aside, this album rarely hits top gear in terms of progression or actual velocity. The likes of ‘Nesting Dolls’ and the nine-minute title track rather wind themselves to a close without any real climax, meaning ‘Descensus’ is all a bit safe. It may not push boundaries like its predecessor, but this album is accomplished all the same.
