We rate the new EP from Kent post-hardcore lads Bury The Hatchet. Read our review inside!
For a self-release EP, ‘…It Was Never Enough’, from Bury The Hatchet, is solid stuff. It’s not breaking boundaries, or without fault, but there’s something endearing about the Kent crew’s post-rock-filtered metalcore. Past the thin production, there are good ideas (see the heaving chorus of ‘Protest’) as well as an ethos of creating something someway unique (a never-settled ‘Broken Soul’), while the bass work, far further than root-note aping, breathes a character of its own. Droplets of genre pandering and vocals occasionally more strained than powerful aside, ‘…It Was Never Enough’ is subtly impressive. Bury The Hatchet are doing things right.
(Please note. In the latest issue of Rock Sound, we incorrectly billed Bury The Hatchet as a four-piece, when they are in fact a five-piece. Apologies for any confusion caused).
