Our verdict on the debut from the Newcastle four-piece.
Listening to Boy Jump Ship’s debut album will feel like a time-warp for those enamoured with the melodic rock sounds of the early 2000s. ‘Wake Up’ consists of 12 songs clearly influenced by the likes of Jimmy Eat World, The Ataris and Allister.
While there are hints of the modern pop-punk sound that the likes of All Time Low ushered in, Boy Jumps Ship seem a bit too fixated on their old favourites to bring anything new to the table. The nostalgia is admittedly satisfying, but there’s not much here you can’t get from digging out an old Drive-Thru Records compilation.
