How do you top something like 'Separation'? Like this. You top it like this.
Growing up can be tricky for a band like Pennsylvania’s Balance And Composure. With storming debut record ‘Separation’ fuelled by the sort of adolescent kindle that burns away as quickly as it ignites, their second effort was always unlikely to be a spiky affair. Instead, ‘The Things We Think We’re Missing’ is filled with altogether more palatable, well-rounded post-emo-grunge anthems. Soaring, super-slick opener ‘Parachutes’ is a prime example of how tucking away the frayed edges can make the world of difference and the result is a much less fiery – but no less gripping – 48 minutes that will go down among the very best of this year.
