Bad Religion - Christmas Songs Cover

"‘Christmas Songs’ finds punk rock’s elder statesmen subtly dismantling the established order by taking these seasonal staples and making them their own..."

At first glance, the idea of Bad Religion harmonising their way through ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’ without so much as a knowing wink seems implausible in the extreme. And yet, through their decision to play it straight where others would sneer, ‘Christmas Songs’ finds punk rock’s elder statesmen subtly dismantling the established order by taking these seasonal staples and making them their own. It’s a gentle move that befits the festive spirit, but a stinging reprise of ’93’s ‘American Jesus’ serves as a timely reminder that these perennial bastions of articulate dissent haven’t gone soft on us quite yet.
