Away Days – ‘Away Days’ Cover

Our thoughts on the debut from the ex-Blitz Kids' new venture.

Comprising three-quarters of the now defunct Blitz Kids, Away Days’ debut EP has an authenticity to it that was sorely lacking from their former outfit. Guitarist Jono Yates steps up to frontman duties and proves to be a revelation in crafting solid gold hook-filled emo.

As pessimistic as it is catchy, the confessional ‘I Look Alright (But I’m Not)’ and the “I’m the king of my own disaster” refrain of ‘Messiah’ takes that relatable feeling of being down and out and uses it to pick up your spirits in a way that only the best music can.
