Atreyu’s London Return: “The Orange County Metallers Still Have Fire In Their Bellies”
Orange County metallers Atreyu hit London's Underworld last night. It sounded like a triumphant comeback...
Having called time on their three year hiatus last year, Atreyu make their long-awaited return to the UK with a point to prove. A snappy set from Birmingham’s SHVPES proves enough to raise the temperature a notch, with their melodic tones and hammering hooks verifying their recent rise.
But by no fault of theirs, tonight was always going to be about one band.
SHVPES
And as Atreyu let fly with ‘Doomsday’ and move swiftly into the timeless ‘Right Side Of The Bed’, it’s as though they’d never been away. Bodies surge forward as the sweat levels climb from moist to drenched – cue vocalist Alex Varkatzas whipping his top off – and vocal chords are put to the ultimate test on the soaring ‘Ex’s And Oh’s’.

While the majority of the set has a Greatest Hits feel – not that anyone has a problem with that – the addition of blistering new track ‘So Others May Live’ is enough alone to confirm the Orange County metallers still have fire in their bellies.
LONG LIVE ATREYU!
