All Time Low hit London Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith to start their huge tour on Friday (March 10). Here's what we learned.
ALL TIME LOW ARE STILL A VERY GOOD BAND
Y'know, in case you were wondering.
After shaking off the cobwebs at a super-secret smaller show as the Young Renegades a night earlier, they're back flexing their muscles in the big rooms tonight. From a super-slick setlist to a blinding light show, it feels like they're picking up where they left off at their last show over six months ago - making this pretty much their longest ever break from tour.
ALL TIME LOW ARE STILL A VERY, VERY GOOD BAND
Masters of the change of pace, they go from a raucous full-band 'Kids In The Dark' to 'Therapy' (where Alex takes the spotlight while Jack Snapchats from the side of stage, obviously) to the thump of 'A Love Like War', proving what we've known for a while now - Alex, Jack, Rian and Zack have become a versatile, accomplished rock band.
The X-rated stage banter is a little less X-rated than usual owing to the fact that Jack's extended family is sat on the front row of the balcony, but aside from that this is a normal All Time Low show - meaning it's a great All Time Low show.
THE NEW SONGS RULE
'Dirty Laundry' and 'Future Hearts'-era standalone song 'Take Cover' mark a slight change in direction for All Time Low, but a truly interesting one. Is this a sign of what's coming next? Because if it is, their fans like it, the band seem to love it and it sounds absolutely stunning.
SO WHAT IS NEXT?
In this month's Rock Sound, the band say, "Bring on the stadiums!". On this showing, it could well happen in the next couple of years.
The one thing that is for sure? 'Last Young Renegade' is go.
