ATL at Download 2016 was all sorts of special. Andy Biddulph was there to see it happen.
ALL TIME LOW WILL HEADLINE ONE OF THESE ONE DAY
It might not be Download - at least judging by the size of the crowd as they stride onstage - but it's clear that this band have the moves and charisma (not to mention the pyro) to actually headline a big, outdoor festival like this one day.
THIS BAND HAVE A RIDICULOUS NUMBER OF HITS
And they have the songs to headline festivals, too. Songs like 'Weightless', songs like the stomping 'Lost In Stereo', songs with the flair and drama of 'A Love Like War'. And that's before we even start to THINK about the new stuff.
ABOUT THAT NEW STUFF... It rules, too. Even bigger and better suited to huge, open stages like this one, 'Something's Gotta Give' and 'Old Scars / Future Hearts' take on a bigger, bolder life and sound like the arena and festival-busting tracks they surely are.
ALL TIME LOW ARE WORKING ON NEW MUSIC That's what Alex says, anyway. Consider us stoked.
AND PROBABLY NEW JOKES Alex and Jack's onstage back-and-forth reaches new highs (or lows, depending on how you feel about it), with topics tonight ranging from Jack's, uh, unique method of face painting to the "paparazzi" fans who the band bring onstage to sing "Time Bomb".
THIS ISN'T ALL TIME LOW'S HOME, BUT THEY DO A GOOD JOB OF MAKING IT THEIR OWN Going toe to toe with Rammstein here was never going to be easy, but Alex, Jack, Rian and Zack more than hold their own when playing at the same time as tonight's main stage headliners, and draw a sizeable crowd by the time the last notes of 'Dear Maria, Count Me In' ring out.
SPEAKING OF 'DEAR MARIA, COUNT ME IN'... It's AMAZING. Both Alex and Jack jump in the crowd for it, there's a great big singalong for each and every cry of "I got your picture..." and it caps an accomplished, character-building set from these festival headliners-in-waiting.
