AARON WEST AND THE ROARING TWENTIES – ‘BITTERSWEET’
The Wonder Years' Dan Campbell revives his alter ego.
Two years since introducing us to his alter ego Aaron West on ‘We Don’t Have Each Other’, The Wonder Years’ Dan Campbell has now sewn three more patches on his now flourishing quilt of fragile storytelling with ‘Bittersweet’.
Musically, trumpets blare and banjos patter against jaunty folk acoustics as Campbell croons and wails almost as if it’s his own life that’s falling apart, especially on the desolate ‘Goodbye, Carolina Blues’.
Though not the most immediate of listens, the quality of songwriting on ‘Bittersweet’ is more than enough to influence a deep-set obsession with this world that Campbell has created.
