A Skylit Drive - Rise
Standing out less, but all the better for it...
It sounds strange, but A Skylit Drive’s fourth album is written and produced in a manner that makes them stand out less in the metalcore scene – and it’s all the better for it. ‘Rise’ is grounded in solid, accessible pop songwriting, with Michael Jagmin’s high-pitched vocals mixed much more agreeably than their earlier records (though they’ll still be too much to handle for many). The lyrics really drive the songs; they’re full of the right kind of drama, and Brian White’s screams are used more to punctuate emotional lines, rather than exist as lead parts – and that might actually stave off a lot of the criticism their sound receives.
