"As Much As I’ve Been Writing Music, I’ve Been Writing Stories"
AViVA is one of the fascinating artists that we have come across in a long while.
Since posting her first songs back in 2017, she has been building up a community of devoted fans alongside building a whole universe for her dark-pop tunes to live in.
After releasing her debut album 'Volume 1', and a string of standalone singles in the last few months, her next step is a full novel taking place in the same richly detailed dystopian society as her music.
But what is 'SELF/LESS' going to be about?
Well we asked her in our recent Video Call, and this is what she said...
"I’m at a point where I’m so intimately involved in all of the world building that sometimes I could say too much because I forget that it could be a spoiler because I know it intrinsically.
"What I can say is that it’s a future where creativity and self-expression are illegal and there is a government called the Metropolis City Council. What are they? Are they good or are they bad? I guess it’s a matter of which side of the coin you’re on.
The main character in the book is called Teddy and she exists in this world.
"There are other characters, Kit, Jamie, Michelle. There’s Link, and they all have Instagram and they’ve told me that they are all going to start getting really active on Instagram soon. They’ve decided that it’s time. So maybe there will be some more secrets coming soon. I don’t know. They have their own lives. I am just a mouthpiece for them and their story."
How amazing does that sound?
We also asked what it was that made her want to pen a whole story...
"As far as coming up with the story, developing the world, the characters, actually writing the book, I’ve done it all myself. I had someone suggest to me, ‘Why don’t you get a ghostwriter’, but I think people don’t realise that I have never seen myself as a musician who wrote a book. I’m a musician and I’m also an author. I have always been writing. As much as I’ve been writing music, I’ve been writing stories. I thought that it made sense to do both of them together because that’s all I ever wanted as a teenager. That world that I could get lost in when I was having the crappiest time at school and I wanted to read my books and put headphones on and be full immersed and no one did it. So screw that, I’m going to do it."
