Band team up with photographer / director Steve Gullick to shoot new hair-raising promo. So, so good!
Speaking of the video collab, frontman Murray Macleod says: ‘'We received a few treatments for the video from various directors and 2 of them were actually somewhat similar. We decided to go with Steve Gullick who is one of out favorite photographers of all time. We all kind of freaked out when we discovered he wanted to make a video for us. The concept was pretty simple, play the song, dress up as famous rock/pop stars, have a tonne of fun. Steve is great in making us feel really comfortable in front of the camera, something that has been a bit of a problem for us in the past due to us not really enjoying being filmed / photographed. Our friend Daisy Warne also handmade all the guitars, costumes and sets so it gives the whole thing a really homely feel. We wanted the video to look a bit crude and fun which I think Steve captured perfectly."
While Gullick himself is a big fan of the band, it'd seem. He says: "I jumped at the opportunity to make The Xcerts ‘Pop Song’ video – the general criteria when accepting a video commission is 'how many times can I listen to that?' Cos shooting and editing a vid involves a LOT of listens. Pop Song is infectious - a classic & 5000 listens in I still love it.”
'Pop Song' is taken from The Xcerts' incredible new album 'There Is Only You', which is set for release on November 03 through Raygun Records. To read what we made of it, download the new issue of Rock Sound right now, order a copy to your door or pick it up from UK stores TOMORROW (Wednesday, October 08).
