Simple Plan open up about their return and that collaboration with Nelly in the latest Rock Sound magazine. Here's a taste...
“Nelly is such a larger than life character,” chuckles frontman Pierre Bouvier.
“He took the mic and started spitting ideas right in front of us. He’s got such a huge personality, and he’s a real star. We hung out until three o’clock in the morning, which in the rap world might be a normal hour but that’s way past Simple Plan’s bedtime!”
When Pierre and his bandmates – guitarists Jeff Stinco and Sébastien Lefebvre, bassist David Desrosiers and drummer Chuck Comeau – first crammed themselves into a tiny van to play the likes of ‘Addicted’ and ‘I’m Just A Kid’ to modest numbers in sweaty little rooms, they never could have imagined this.
The idea that one day they’d be running along crisp, sandy beaches and diving into sparkling blue oceans recreating scenes from legendary ’90s TV show Baywatch with Nelly for the ‘I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed’ video, would have seemed insane.
But it happened, and this is their reality as they release fifth full-length album ‘Taking One For The Team’.
“That was a difficult day at work – on a boat in the ocean, surrounded by beautiful women in bikinis!” Pierre jokes. “There have been a lot of surprises in our career, but that one’s definitely a highlight."
