UPDATE: AP is reporting that Chris Cornell hanged himself, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.
ORIGINAL STORY Billboard are reporting that Detroit police are investigating Chris Cornell's death as a possible suicide.
Police have also said it's too early to properly determine a cause of death.
Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Cornell passed away on May 17 following a show at Detroit's Fox Theater. A local radio station reports that he was found unresponsive at the MGM Grand Hotel in the city. He was 52.
Police spokesman Michael Woody is quoted as saying officers recieved a 911 call around midnight local time requesting assistance.
"When the units arrived they were met by a gentleman who indicated that Chris Cornell had been found in his room," he said.
Woody added: "When officers went to the room they found Chris Cornell laying in his bathroom, unresponsive and he had passed away.
"We are investigating it as a possible suicide but we need to wait on the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death."
A spokesperson for the Chris Cornell has asked that his family is given privacy at this time.
