Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst Wasn’t Arrested For Murder. Somebody At The AP Made A Boo-Boo.

Note to everyone: 'Fred' is NOT short for 'Robert'.

Well this is a strange one.

Earlier this week, the Associated Press sparked confusion by reporting in a news bulletin that a 71-year-old billionaire arrested on weapons and first degree murder charges was Fred Durst, lead vocalist of nu metal legends Limp Bizkit

The original bulletin that was issued stated the following:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A Louisiana State Police trooper says millionaire Robert Durst has been booked on weapons charges in that state – on top of a first-degree murder charge lodged by Los Angeles authorities. Trooper Melissa Matey told the Associated Press that an arrest warrant was issued for the former Limp Bizkit frontman and he was rebooked in the Orleans Parish Jail on Monday under two new charges.

Before we go any further, let's just clarify a couple of things:

1. Fred Durst is not 71 years old.
2. Yes, they got that other bit wrong, too. Fred Durst is the current frontman of Limp Bizkit. Always has been, probably always will be.
3. 'Fred' is not short for 'Robert'.

It was only flagged up after being reported by a jimrosenko.com reader. The AP later issued a correct bulletin without the erroneous information:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Louisiana State Police trooper says millionaire Robert Durst has been booked on weapons charges in that state - on top of a first-degree murder charge lodged by Los Angeles authorities. Trooper Melissa Matey told the Associated Press that an arrest warrant was issued for the real estate heir and he was rebooked in the Orleans Parish Jail on Monday under two new charges.

Naturally, the internet had a few things to say about this.
