The frontman checked out a recent college production of the band's Broadway musical.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has suggested a brand new take on the band's 'American Idiot' musical could be on the way.

Billie went to see a recent production of the musical at Chapman College in California, taking to Instagram to post his congratulations and present a new idea for a gender-swapped production of the show:

Billie wrote "On a side note, I was wondering what it would be like if someone did a production where the men and women switched roles. Jonny be played by a woman? Whatsername be Whatshisface? I like it."

We like it too Billie! With the current gender-swapped production of 'Company' winning awards and acclaim in the West End (shout out to our musical theatre nerd readers btw), hopefully we might get to see 'American Idiot' return to Broadway in the near future in a similarly exciting new form.

A UK production of the show, celebrating it's 10th anniversary, is also currently on tour - get more info here.

Green Day, meanwhile, are currently hard at work on their new album. This year also sees theme celebrate 25 years since the release of their landmark album 'Dookie'.
