It’s Time To Say Goodbye To Cytota And Hello To SHVPES

It's a new year, new them for the once-called Cytota.

With new vocalist Griffin Dickinson taking the reins full-time, Birmingham-based technical metallers Cytota have decided to grab the New Year by the neck and rebrand themselves as SHVPES, or Shapes to you and us.

The recently-recruited Griffin took the role after touring with the band on their last year's run with Crossfaith, and he had this to say on the band's prospects looking forward: "The short time I toured with Cytota was great, but with our new dynamic, it became clear to us all that the name had reached the end of its chapter. SHVPES represents the start of a new era for this band and I'm immensely excited to be a part of it."

After five years working, writing and touring as Cytota, the switch isn't going to be easy. But with ambitious new material on the way and a full tour supporting 36 Crazyfists fast approaching it looks like they're definitely up to the challenge. Drummer Harry Jennings has been in it from the start, but marks the change as a big thing for the group: "Cytota has been my life for the past 5 years. We didn't take this decision lightly and it feels like the natural thing to do, we have progressed so much in the last few months with the addition of Griffin, that it needed a new name for the new energy and vibe we had. It's really exciting."

Oh, and just in case you missed it, they dropped this rad taster of their new things to come late last year:

It's fast approaching their hectic schedule supporting both the mighty 36 Crazyfists, then with Fightstar and then Takedown in March, it's definitely Shaping up to be a good one! ...No? We'll see ourselves out. Catch the band on one of the many, many shows below.
