Gerard Way has confirmed that a TV adaptation of his graphic novel series The Umbrella Academy is coming to Netflix.

Deadline reports than Netflix have ordered 10 episodes. Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

"I am thrilled that The Umbrella Academy has found a home at Netflix," Gerard commented.

“I couldn’t think of a better place for the vision Gabriel Bá and myself had when creating the comic and cannot wait for people to experience that world as a live-action show.”

“What drew us to The Umbrella Academy is that it’s wholly unique, visual and stylized,”
added Cindy Holland, Netflix's VP of Original Content.

“These aren’t the usual superheroes, and this series will embrace the singular tone of the graphic novels — dark yet humorous, supernatural yet grounded in reality."

"I took the job because I’m such an immense fan of what Gerard [Way] and Gabriel [Ba] did with that book." writer Jeremy Slater (who wrote the pilot episode) told Collider last year.

"There’s a lot of weird shit in The Umbrella Academy, and it would be very easy to sand down some of those weird edges and make it more familiar to American audiences. I’m fighting very hard to not let that happen."
