It feels like in this Future Violents chapter of your career, you’ve had a bit of fun nudging, or provoking people: like teasing the band name for a while, or that My Chem reference in ‘Young And Doomed’. Where does that impulse come from, for you?
Says Frank: “I think there’s this need now for people to be overly informed about things, which comes a lot with social media and stuff like that. Some of the mystery is taken out of things, with it being so digitally present, the album cover being online, all of that. Back in the day, you had to search for these clues, and now you just want information right away. You don’t have to search anymore, you get it immediately. And so, it’s a little bit silly. It’s like, ‘When I’m ready to tell you something, I’m going to tell you. But if you’re looking for clues, I’m going to give you something like that’.”
I guess it goes back to that idea of having a genuine back and forth with people who are interested in your music... “Yeah, it’s like we have inside jokes, basically. You can take it with a grain of salt, essentially. The people that know me and truly get it, they’re in the know, and they get where I’m coming from with things. And the people who are tourists, who are there to get offended or be weird about things, they’re going to do that and then move along to the next person.”
