Faith No More played London’s Brixton Academy last night – their first gig together in over 11 years. Rock Sound was there…
The first time together live onstage in over 11 years and Faith No More didn’t disappoint.
This was much more of a cool calm and honest welcome back; it wasn’t a valiant guns-a-blazing entrance, just a sophisticated entrance that spoke volumes. Opening with a cover of soul classic ‘Reunited’ by Peaches And Herb was the perfect welcome back stride that only FNM could pull off.
A setlist which truly illustrated the band’s diversity – from the commercial classics including ‘Easy’, ‘From Out Of Nowhere’ and ‘Be Aggressive’ through to the brutal ‘Surprise! You’re Dead’, the moody ‘Caffeine’ and the bonkers ‘Cuckoo For Caca’, Faith No More rocked it.
Donned in coloured Zoot Suits, Patton’s slick persona excelled throughout while Billy Gould, Roddy Bottum, Mike ‘Puffy’ Bordin and new guitarist Jon Hudson all showed just how vital they all are when sharing a stage together. The crowd response was deafening, and with two deserved encores, Faith No More demonstrated that their sublime and eloquent creations are simply timeless.
This is not a nostalgia trip; this is a truly inspiring piece of musical history showing no signs of losing its relevance. Now this was a reformation truly worth waiting for. Download is going be amazing!
