Children Of Bodom Guitarist & Founder Alexi Laiho Has Passed Away

Alexi Laiho, guitarist, vocalist and founding member of Children Of Bodom, has passed away.

He was 41 years old. 

Laiho had suffered from long term health issues during his last few years and died in his home in Helsinki, Finland last week. 

He formed Children of Bodom alongside drummer Jaska Raatikainen back in 1993 and released 10 albums before disbanding in 2019. He then formed Bodom After Midnight last year who recorded three songs and one music video which will all be released posthumously. 

He was also involved in Warmen, Sinergy, Kylähullut and The Local Band over the years as well.

His bandmates Daniel Freyberg, Mitja Toivonen and Waltteri Väyrynen have released this short statement:

"We are crushed by the sudden passing of our dear friend and band member. Words cannot describe this shock and the profound sadness that we feel".

His sister has also released her own short statement:

"We are all absolutely shocked and devastated. We ask for privacy and understanding during these hard times. My little brother's funeral will take place privately."​

His wife Kelli Wright-Laiho has released her own short statement too:

"Alexi was the most loving and magnificent husband and father. Our hearts are eternally broken"
