The Panic! At The Disco frontman takes home an Outer Critics Circle Award for his work on 'Spongebob Squarepants The Musical'.
Panic! At The Disco's Brendon Urie has just won his first ever theatre award for his work on the Broadway musical 'Spongebob Squarepants'.
The show will take home the prize for Outstanding New Score at the annual Outer Critics Circle awards in New York on May 24th. The full list of winners was announced on May 7th with 'Spongebob' also taking the award for Outstanding New Broadway Musical and Outstanding Actor In A Musical for Ethan Slater's performance in the title role.
Brendon wrote the song 'Just A Simple Sponge' for the show which also features music by the likes of John Legend, The Flaming Lips and David Bowie among others.
Congrats Brendon and team!
The Outer Critics Circle Awards are now in their 68th year and are viewed as a good indicator of who may triumph at the Tony Awards, Broadway's major accolade, in June. Brendon and his fellow 'Spongebob' songwriters are also nominated for Best Original Score Tony Award. Brendon is, of course, no stranger to Broadway, having starred in the musical 'Kinky Boots' in a limited run last summer.
Panic! At The Disco's new album 'Pray For The Wicked' will be released on June 22nd. The band will headline Reading And Leeds festivals in the UK this August.
