We caught up with Simon, Ben and James as Biffy Clyro launch their 'MTV Unplugged' album to talk working on their eighth album, their upcoming acoustic tour and get all the details on their new movie soundtrack project 'Balance Not Symmetry'.
Biffy Clyro have just released their brand new acoustic live album 'MTV Unplugged' so we chatted to Simon, Ben and James about the project as well as their busy year ahead.
First up, there is the upcoming movie, 'Balance Not Symmetry', which the band are providing the soundtrack for - although they won't have seen the movie while they are writing it, as Ben explains:
"So the strange thing about this is the music comes before the movie. So the soundtrack is going to exist before the movie is even shot. Which is arse backwards - that's the right terminology for that...the movie will be shot in a matter of days but the director, Jamie Adams, he workshops with the actors for a few weeks leading up to it, and it's loosely scripted and there's a plot line there. But hopefully the music will be played in the background of all this workshopping and bleeds into the actors' pschyes and into the director's, and hopefully has an influence on the movie itself."
Expect that project to arrive before the end of 2018.
But the big question is, what's happening with Biffy album number 8? Simon revealed that the film soundtrack has actually inspired their next record too:
"We're working on our eighth album as Biffy as well. That'll be out 2019, hopefully before the summer...It's just nice to have a new challenge...if anything (the film project) has kicked back into album number 8 as well. It's funny how just your mind frees up."
