Caleb Shomo joined us on the Rock Sound Podcast to chat everything album three.

Beartooth
frontman Caleb Shomo joins us on the Rock Sound Podcast this week to chat the band's upcoming new album, his honest thoughts on previous album 'Aggressive' and more.

Here's a snippet...

WHAT PARTS OF 'AGGRESSIVE' WEREN'T YOU HAPPY WITH?
“It was more the sound of certain songs. I think there was stuff that I should’ve sat on longer, there was some stuff that I rushed.

"It’s more personal stuff, stuff that the regular listener probably wouldn’t notice, but it’s little things for me where I was like, ‘Fuck, I had a better lyric I should’ve used there’ or ‘That guitar part should’ve had more bite on it’, just little weird things, but I have a tonne of time to make this next record, so I’ll make sure that it’s perfect.”

IT'S GOING TO BE A HEAVY RECORD, THEN?
“It’s different. I have one song fully written, it’s the title track of the album and there’s no screaming on it at all, but it’s very emotional. It’s rock, it’s fucking ripping guitars, fast drums, the whole nine, but I think one of the things that I got caught up in on the second album was writing a little more externally and not writing from my internal shit.

"The whole first album is all internal, every song pretty much, other than ‘Beaten In Lips’, is about some shit that I’ve been through and things that I’ve dealt with in life and ‘Aggressive’ was definitely more outward, it was more looking at other situations in life. So I went back into myself, I dove back in and when I set the tone for the new album with this first song I wrote, to me personally, one of the most emotional songs I’ve ever written.

"I don’t want to give away too much too early, but it’s heavy stuff man, emotionally. This one song that I have fully written is some of the best melodic stuff I’ve ever written. But there is some heavy stuff coming, like really heavy shit. I’ve been listening to a tonne of metal and a tonne of aggro music so I’m going to try and really bring it back.”

SO THIS WILL BE A MUCH MORE PERSONAL RECORD, LIKE 'DISGUSTING' WAS?
“Yeah, way more personal, very internal. I’ve written some songs that I’m kinda scared to release because they’re really fucking dark! It’s shit that I don’t like to talk about. But here’s the reality, when I started Beartooth I told myself, ‘This is my therapy, this is how I deal with my life - writing these songs and putting every bit of honest emotion into it, regardless of who hears it’.

"And once you put out an album and a tonne of people hear it and start coming to the shows singing your fucked up lyrics it’s like, ‘Alright, maybe I should think about this a little more!’ But I’m just kinda saying ‘fuck it’ for this next one, I’m definitely going more raw and internal and intense.”
