8 years ago Sleeping With Sirens completely changed the scene with the release of their debut album. Its influence is still resonating, especially on these brilliant albums that wouldn't be what they are without it.
MEMPHIS MAY FIRE - THE HOLLOW
It was around 2011 when Rise Records became the home of all of the hottest and freshest names in heavy music overnight. Though now an absolute classic of the genre, this sophomore offering from Matty Mullins and co. probably wouldn't have been received with such passion if it wasn't for the foundations that SWS layed.
HANDS LIKE HOUSES - GROUND DWELLER
With the ability to write songs the size of mountains, Hands Like Houses have become one of Australia's premium post-hardcore exports. Yet would they have been so inspired if the likes of 'Don't Fall Asleep At The Helm' and 'The Bomb Dot Com V2.0' hadn't been penned? We will never truly know.
CROWN THE EMPIRE - THE FALLOUT
Aside from being effortlessly brutal, SWS were brilliantly experimental in their delivery. Flirting with electronics, strings and storytelling in a way that bands of this ilk hadn't attempted before, 'With Ears To See...' opened the door for artists such as Crown The Empire to spread their creative wings that little bit further.
TOO CLOSE TO TOUCH - NERVE ENDINGS
Atmospheric. Punishing. Emotional. All things that Too Close To Touch incorporated into the tunes that made up their breautifully breathless debut album. None of it would have been possible without Sirens leading the way though. Hell, Kellin even lends his vocals to 'The Chase'.
PICTURESQUE - BACK TO BEAUTIFUL
One of the most distinctive aspects of Sirens' sound has always been the extraordinary lengths that Kellin Quinn's vocal chords can go to. Blurring the lines of how far a vocalist should and shouldn't go meant that this full-length debut album from Picturesque could push those limits even further than ever before.
Taking the punishing riffs and delicious atmospheres that Sirens helped to perfect and putting their own darkened twist on them, Bad Omens are carrying on what 'With Ears To See And Eyes To Hear' started in the most brutal of fashions. Ladies and Gentlemen, the future.
Thanks for everything Sleeping With Sirens. You're brilliant.
