Banter > hate.
The alternative music scene should always be a place where anyone, from any background - of any gender, sexuality, race or walk of life - can feel at home. That's kinda the point.
Unsurprisingly, the homophobic (and generally anti-everyone that isn't them) hate preachers of the Wesboro Baptist Church aren't so keen on that, and over recent years they've taken to picketing Vans Warped Tour. They're doing it again this year.
First, here's a reminder of how that worked out for them last time:
Yeah, not so great.
This year, they're picketing the Warped Tour date at Bonner Springs, Kansas, which is happening tomorrow (July 05). You can read their statement here if you want. It's quite, er, something.
Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman has responded:
And fans of Warped Tour were quick to shoot down any suggestion of sitting down to talk with the WBC.
Thank you for all your feedback, never would of allowed it but just wanted to see if you had the passion I have to quench this type of hatred.— KevinLyman (@KevinLyman) July 4, 2018
So, that's a thing that's happened.
Don't want to get too ahead of ourselves, but it's hard to see this being a great day for the WBC.
If you fancy heading down to Warped Tour to, y'know, watch bands and not be a dick, you can find all the remaining dates here.
