The cast is starting to take shape.
The Netflix adaptation of Gerard Way's graphic novel 'The Umbrella Academy' is really starting to take shape.
It has now been revealed that legendary singer Mary J. Blige has joined the cast on a one year deal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will take on the role of Cha-Cha, "a ruthless and unorthodox hit-woman who travels through time to kill assigned targets."
A few weeks ago Gerard shared a beautiful drawing of the first cast table reading, which you can have a glance at below:
One of the gorgeous on-location drawings by @fabiomoon during The Umbrella Academy Netflix production. This was a particularly exciting day, as we got to hear the full cast read through the script. The show is coming out great— great cast, great crew, great everyone! #umbrellaacademy #darkhorsecomics #ucp #netflix

When the series was announced last July, Gerard had this to say:
"I am thrilled that The Umbrella Academy has found a home at Netflix. I couldn’t think of a better place for the vision Gabriel Bá and myself had when creating the comic and cannot wait for people to experience that world as a live-action show.”
