Frank Iero On Today’s Scene: “I Back Anyone That Puts Their Neck On The Line And Takes A Chance”

The legend himself joined us on the Rock Sound Podcast to chat new music, reinvention and where the music scene's currently at.

DO YOU THINK THERE AREN'T ENOUGH RISKS BEING TAKEN IN MUSIC RIGHT NOW?
"I think there's a widespread fear of taking chances because records aren't selling, bands aren't staying around very long because they can't fucking afford it and labels are pulling their hair out and drawing straws and dumping bands and picking new ones up and trying to see anything that'll work.

"It's a lot of fear based activity and that's sad, because are you going to have bands like Sonic Youth ever again? All these bands that were nurtured and given the opportunity to explore new things, new soundscapes... that's what I think we're really going to miss out on if we don't support artistry and support bands that we love taking chances.

"Maybe you don't get it right away, but you should give it a shot."

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF BANDS LIKE WATERPARKS AND MILK TEETH? TWO BANDS AT OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE SCALE WHO ARE BOTH TAKING THOSE CREATIVE RISKS...
"Yeah, honestly I back anybody that puts their neck on the line and takes a chance.

"I'm a fan of Milk Teeth, I think they're a great band and bunch of guys and girl and I think they write some really great songs.

"Waterparks - I'm not extremely familiar with their music but I met them at Slam Dunk and they were very, very kind and I think that's awesome. Anybody that's out there doing it because they love doing it and doesn't give a shit what people think - they do it because they have to fucking do it - I back it 100 per cent."
