This is As It Is' contribution to the 'Songs That Saved My Life' compilation.
Rock Sound is excited to be presenting the world premiere of As It Is' contribution to the Hopeless Records 'Songs That Saved My Life' compilation.
This is an important song, from an important band, for an important compilation, with a very important message.
As It Is have covered The Postal Service's 'Such Great Heights' for the compilation, and as frontman Patty Walters shares, the song has a special place in his heart: "I heard the song for the first time on MySpace- I went on a friend’s profile and it was sitting there. Knowing nothing about The Postal Service or even Death Cab For Cutie at the time, I just fell in love with this song. Just everything about it. The lyricism, and the overall soundscape of the song- it’s just beautiful. It’s a really really cool song. And I think with a lot of electronic music, it can sound very dated, but this song just sounds so timeless. It sounds like it was made yesterday. It’s an incredible song."
Proceeds from the 'Songs That Saved My Life' compilation will be benefitting mental health and suicide prevention organisations. Speaking about the importance of discussing mental health in our scene, Patty has shared "I think we as a scene can understand and appreciate that there's still a very unfortunate stigma surrounding mental health, and that before we as a society grasp the magnitude of mental health, we as a scene have to do that. If we want to change the world we have to start with our scene and our immediate community.
"I think that’s why this compilation is so amazing, it’s because it shines a light on an issue that we as society might not be talking about, but we as a scene definitely are. And we are starting to make some important fucking progress. Because really it is just the surface, and we’re gonna get there, but we all need to get there together- we all feel so alone if we don’t speak out about our struggles."
