We’ve Heard YUNGBLUD’s New Single ‘Strawberry Lipstick’, And This Is What It Sounds Like

YUNGBLUD's new single 'Strawberry Lipstick' is set to drop on Thursday (July 16), kickstarting his new era with a bang. Though we've been lucky enough to hear it already. So before you can get your teeth into it, we thought we would let you know what you can expect from this rousing rock banger.

After the gorgeous 'Weird!' soundtracked all of our quarantines, YUNGBLUD is kicking off his new album era in some style with a sumptuous and sensual slice of rock and roll goodness.

Much like the iconic dress he's wearing on the single's artwork, 'Strawberry Lipstick' feels quintessentially British, with Dom wearing his proud heritage, and the sounds it has birthed over the years, firmly on his sleeve. A thunderous bassline plods away as he sneers "I've got a toxic attitude and lack self control" like he's fronting The Sex Pistols in 1977 before a flowery chorus pulled straight from the brit pop hall of fame finds him begging you to "Take it easy, take it easy, take it easy on me" via a soulful croon.

Capturing the spirit of those that have come before him and delivering it through a modern lense, YUNGBLUD is living out every rockstar fantasy he has ever wanted to whilst still managing to sound uniquely him.

More than anything, 'Strawberry Lipstick' feels much looser and more carefree than what we've heard from Dom over the last year, both via 'Weird!' and the 'Underrated Youth' EP, and it's all the better for it. From the lustful shriek of "She's gonna suck on my strawberry lipstick" in the second verse through to the shimmering howl "You can have it all, if you don't take my heart" at the bridge that follows a heated guitar solo, this is a song fuelled by the sort of white hot passion and youthful vigour that rock music should always be inhabited by.

It also signals that Album Two is going to full of lots of surprises...
