From My Chemical Romance to Linkin Park, The Epic Orchestra has it covered.
There's something wholly emotional about orchestral music. The high and lows that come with every sweeping motion. The tenderness of strings and the boom of the horns. It all equates to something quite magical.
So what happens when an orchestra takes some of the biggest and best rock songs and transforms them into classical compositions?
Well thanks to The Epic Orchestra you don't have to wonder.
Here's a selection of some of the incredible pieces of music that composer Louie Dewy has put together.
GREEN DAY - BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS
One of the more mournful and downtrodden songs on an album full of mournful and downtrodden songs, this classic from Green Day's 'American Idiot' still hits today. And seeing as it is basically one piece of a expansive rock opera, it's no surprise that when played by an orchestra it sounds almost cinematic. Maybe one day we will get that film adaptation.
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE - HELENA
You thought that MCR's original version sent shivers up your spine? You ain't heard nothing yet. Deliciously gothic and heartbreakingly poignant, the sadness etched into this My Chem classic comes to life even more so here and we will be surprised if you make it to the end of this video without at least one tear trickling down your face.
EVANESCENCE - MY IMMORTAL
17 years on, and Evanescence's first real ballad still strikes a chord just as deep. Though despite starting with the same desolate piano, this orchestral version builds and builds and builds to the point where it's near impossible to not be enraptured by the spirituality of the song. Proper goosebumps.
LINKIN PARK - NUMB
When you consider that the introduction of this song is played entirely on electronic instruments, to hear it reimagined by brass and strings and still have it feel just as iconic and irresistable is a triump in itself. And then that chorus hits and you are on another planet entirely.
MUSE - PLUG IN BABY
An interesting choice of song to give the orchestral treatment, considering how far away in sound and scope this Muse classic is to classical music. But there has always been a cinematic and gargantuan feel to the band's vision, and that truly comes to life in dramatic style here.
LINKIN PARK - ONE MORE LIGHT
We couldn't just include one LP song, especially when one as important as 'One More Light' has been transformed. This song has taken on a whole different life since its release, and hearing it performed on such a grand scale is enough to make your hairs stand up on end.
GOO GOO DOLLS - IRIS
You can't deny a classic, can you? A beautiful song that everybody in the whole wide world knows (probably), delivered beautifully by an orchestra with no limit on their ambition. It doesn't get much better than that does it?
