The album, and accompanying comic, tells the story of Enaia Jin. Set in a vivid and beautiful post-apocalyptic world, we follow her journey of self-discovery through her interactions with cults, gods and lovers.

It's an immersive and brilliantly executed story of lust, hope, deceit and everything in between that deserves your full and undivided attention.

We recently spoke to Lights on the Rock Sound Podcast all about the inspiration behind the album and how it relates to her.

THE CHARACTER [EN] IS QUITE AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL THEN?
“Yeah! Initially I intended for her to be this fictional character, but as I wrote about her more and more, she became more and more like me. Her story’s fictional, she’s a fictional character, but there’s a degree of her personality that’s quite autobiographical. I actually tell people that you can get to know me a little bit through reading it, because she really responds to things the way I do. I put a lot of myself in her.”

THE STORY IS SET IN A FUTURE DYSTOPIA. WHAT DREW YOU TO THAT NOTION?
“Initially it was because I’m a fan of dystopian fiction - I like to think about different ways that the world would end in a fantastical sort of manner! A lot of the commentary in the book is actually about environmental issues. The story is set hundreds of years after the world gave way to famine and plight, because humans mistreated it for so long. Even in this final stage of humanity, people continue to take from it. My dad is a green architect and helped me understand what we’d need to do with our infrastructure to be able to move towards a more sustainable planet. We’re getting there, but it takes time and understanding on everybody’s part. There’s commentary on that in the book, for sure.”

WHICH CAME FIRST - THE ACTUAL MUSIC OR THE VISUAL ART?
“The storyline was written before I started writing the songs, then the songs were written and then the drawing came last, but everything’s very connected. This is kind of a weird thing to say, but I think every artist has got a colour they associate with sound and mood, and it was a cool opportunity to experiment with colour palettes that go to songs. The colour palette that I saw when I closed my eyes and listened to each song is the colour palette I used to colour each chapter of the comic.”

WHICH TIES INTO THE VISUAL ELEMENT OF SOME OF MUSIC VIDEOS, TOO...
The videos all bring the story to life in some capacity. Whether it’s me creating the story like in a song such as ‘Skydiving’ or whether it’s a very direct visual reference to the comic like in ‘New Fears’, it all brings the comic and the story to life.”

So now seems like the perfect time to dip into those 5 visually striking videos then!

'GIANTS'

'SKYDIVING'
