Because today we're celebrating the death of the hiatus!
Six years ago today Fall Out Boy returned from hiatus. It's genuinely been six years.
They announced their return by sharing "When we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music. It's why we started Fall Out Boy in the first place. This isn't a reunion because we never broke up. We needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us.
The future of Fall Out Boy starts now."
And basically, the rest is history. And now they're nominated for a GRAMMY Award!
In honour of six years of post-hiatus Fall Out Boy we've gone and run the numbers on the six biggest hits they've released since coming back. Check it out:
06. 'THE LAST OF THE REAL ONES' - 115 MILLION STREAMS
Barely out a year, 'The Last Of The Real Ones' is such a fan-favourite that it already makes the cut. And not for nothing, but this one is off the GRAMMY NOMINATED album 'M A N I A'. Just saying.
05. 'THE PHOENIX' - 195 MILLION STREAMS
Only the second post-hiatus song released by Fall Out Boy, 'The Phoenix' dropped back in March 2013. 'The Phoenix' made up part two of the Youngblood Chronicles, and to this day who can resist chanting "PUT ON YOUR WARPAINT" whenever this comes on?
04. 'UMA THURMAN' - 219 MILLION STREAMS
She wants to dance like Uma Thurman, and listen to this song too. This one is off their 2015 album 'American Beauty/American Psycho', and the band actually had to seek permission from Uma Thurman for this song. True story.
03. 'IMMORTALS' - 350 MILLION STREAMS
This one had a bit of a hand up by being featured in the Disney Pixar film Big Hero 6, but it also featured on their second post-hiatus album 'American Beauty/American Psycho'. Another fun fact for you, 'Immortals' has been played live 179 times. Banger.
02. 'MY SONGS KNOW WHAT YOU DID IN THE DARK' - 400 MILLION STREAMS
Everyone remembers where they were the moment that Fall Out Boy returned from their hiatus. If you ever find a person who makes you feel the way you felt when you first heard the opening bars to 'My Songs Know', they're probably your soulmate.
01. 'CENTURIES' - 496 MILLION STREAMS
There can only be one, and 'Centuries' takes it out. Wracking up a grand total of 496 million streams across Spotify and YouTube so far, so it's pretty safe to say that we'll remember 'Centuries' for centuries.
Six years on and we're still delighted to have Fall Out Boy back. Three cheers to six more years!
